Types of weirs
- Narrow crested weir:
Height of water above the weir is greater than two times the width of the crest weir
- Broad crested weir:
Height of water above the weir crest is not greater than two times of the width of the crest weir
- Sharp crested weir:
Water flowing over the crest comes in contact with the crest line and thin springs up from the crest and falls as a trajectory
- Ogee weir:
Crest of an ogee weir slightly rises up and after reaching the maximum rise falls in a parabolic form.
- Submerged or drowned weir:
The water level on the downstream side of a weir is above the top surface of weir
