• Non modular outlet:

It is one in which the discharge depends on the difference in level between the water levels in the distributing channel and water course. The discharge through such an outlet varies in wide limits with the fluctuations of the water levels in the distributing and the field channels.

Eg: submerged pipe outlet, masonry sluice and orifices.

• Semi modular or flexible outlet: 

It is one in which the discharge depends only on the variations of the water levels in the distributing channel.

 Eg: Kennedy’s gauge outlet, Crump’s outlet etc.

• Rigid module or modular outlet:

It is one in which the discharge is a constant.

Eg: Gibb’s rigid module
