Public Sector Undertaking (PSU)

This includes the government controlled firms like BPCL, HCL, IOC, ONGC, NTPC etc. the job is highly prestigious. The recruitment of these jobs happen through GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam.   • Maharatna

The Maharatna Companies Are Those Companies That Can Raise An Investment Ceiling Of Rs. 5,000 Crore And Are Free To Decide On Investments Up To 15% Of Their Net Worth In A Project without taking any government approval. It is the top of the chart, there are 10 Maharatna in India, IOC, ONGC, BHEL etc are the few among. The salary package is between Rs 60,000 to 1,80,000.

  • Navaratna

The Navratna Companies Are Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) That Can Invest Up To Rs. 1000 Crore Or 15% Of Their Net Worth On A Single Project Without Seeking Approval From the Government. This comes secondary and has there are 14 Navaratna in India . REC, PGCIL, NHPC etc are few examples. Depending on the designation, the salary package will be between Rs 60,000 to 1,80,000

  • Miniratna

This comes third in which category 1 consist of 62 no’s and category 2 of 12 no’s. Miniratna Category 1 Companies are those which have made profits continuously for the last three years or earned a net profit of Rs. 30 crore or more in one of the three years. Miniratna Category 2 Companies are those which have made profits continuously for the last three years and should have a positive net worth. Depending on the designation, the salary package will be between Rs 40,000 to 1,40,000

How to Enter a PSU After B.Tech in Civil Engineering

1. Preparation for GATE

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national-level exam that assesses your understanding of undergraduate engineering subjects. Collect the GATE syllabus for Civil Engineering and study standard textbooks, reference materials, and past question papers. Depending on your preference, you can join a coaching institute or prepare on your own with a structured study plan

2. Appear for GATE

Register for the GATE exam on the official GATE website, fill in the application form, and pay the examination fee. Take the GATE exam on the scheduled date, which includes multiple-choice questions and numerical answer-type questions. Results are typically announced about a month after the exam. A good GATE score is crucial for PSU recruitment. 




3. Applying to PSUs

4. Selection Process

PSUs will shortlist candidates based on their GATE scores. Shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in group discussions and personal interviews. Some PSUs may conduct additional tests. Final selections are based on performance in GATE, group discussions, and interviews. Successful candidates will receive offer letters.

5. Joining the PSU

PSUs generally conduct a medical examination to ensure candidates meet health standards. After joining, you may undergo training and a probation period before being confirmed as a permanent employee.

Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer jobs in government sector

Writing the respective exams of state or central government for Assistant engineer and Junior Engineer will fetch you jobs. What all departments are making recruitment, the graduates can apply. The technique of measuring quantities from drawings, sketches and specification prepared by architects and engineers for the preparation of Tender/Contract documents is known as taking off. The quantities so taken are used to prepare bills of quantities which usually are in accordance with a published standard method of measurement (SMM).
